What’s Trending in Design— Fall 2022
If we had to summarize what we’re seeing in design trends today, it would be two words: Calming and Relaxing. Trends often reflect our current cultural situation.
Now, a lot of people are feeling a need to get away from it all, or a need to find solace in their own homes. Buyers are looking for a place they can relax after a long day.
How is this being reflected in design trends? Take a look at the seven trends we’ve noticed in the list below. And remember, staging is a little different than design.
When we stage, we use color, furniture, and accessories to appeal to as many buyers as possible. Sometimes stagers follow trends, and sometimes trends are too taste-specific and they’re best for when you design/redesign your own home.
Fall 2022 Design Trends
1. Calming textures.
Pillows and blankets have always added comfort to a room, and are trending more than ever now. For staging, using lots of colorful pillows and blankets softens a room and helps buyers envision themselves kicking off their shoes and relaxing after a long day. Adding beautiful rugs is an easy way to create texture. Plants, books, and wooden accessories bring texture to a room, too. Furniture adds to comfort levels, too, and swivel side chairs are one of the hottest selling items these days. Here’s a link to some swivel chairs: Wayfair | Swivel Chairs
2. Gender neutral for kids bedrooms.
Decorating nurseries and kids rooms with nature or neutral themes is hot! Bright colors (not just pink or blue), whimsical décor, black and white colors, jungle-themed nurseries, and anything that makes a room fun and inviting for kids and parents.
3. Colors from 1970’s.
No, bell bottoms aren’t back in style, and not avocado green, either. But those “Brady Bunch” colors with a twist are suddenly everywhere. The current shades of the 70’s colors pull more jewel tones and tend to be muted, which makes them a little different. We’re seeing fabulous green chairs around wooden kitchen tables, green side chairs next to neutral sofas, and deep shag carpeting that looks like soft grass.
4. Offices with a door that closes and potentially enough space to see a client in at-home office.
Cloffices (closet offices) are out. People want a full room to call their own to get work accomplished. One thing that people who work from home are aware of: noise and interruptions need to be minimal. There are still meetings to attend, clients to see, and work to get finished. A proper environment tends to be a more productive one.
5. Wallpaper is making a comeback!
Peel-and-Stick, is easy to hang and just as simple to remove if your taste changes. If you don’t enjoy painting, this might be a fun DIY project to makeover a room or wall. Here are some suggestions: Amazon Amazon.com : peel and stick wallpaper Lowe’s/HomeDepot NuWallpaper (they make wallpaper that serves as a chalkboard, too!) 6. Bringing nature inside: Really, nature is always in style.
The world is an unpredictable place and nature brings a sense of relaxation. When you can’t get outside, bring nature inside by adding plants, vases of flowers and flower-patterned accessories. Another big “nature trend” is bringing in twigs from your yard (spray paint them white, if you like) and displaying them in a tall vase. The natural wood brings texture and warmth while providing a connection to nature.
7. Green and blue are everywhere in decorating these days!
Deep blue (navy, too) and hunter green are hot. Have you spotted any dark green or deep blue kitchen cabinets yet? Very popular! You can also add earthy green tones to your décor by using faux moss balls or line a decorative tray with moss and add some faux tulip bulbs. Blue paint is a popular bathroom color, and houses with blue bathrooms tend to sell faster and for money.
