A Simple (and kid approved) Foyer Refresh

This week is spring break, and instead of hopping on a plane, the kids and I took a little adventure to Target—because let’s be honest, Target is basically a vacation for the home design-obsessed. We loaded up our cart with a few new finds, came home, and gave our foyer the refresh it was long overdue for. And spoiler: I love how it turned out.

Sometimes all it takes is a small shift to make your space feel brand new again. This whole makeover came together in under an hour and didn’t break the bank. It’s a great reminder that styling your home doesn’t have to be complicated or expensive—it just takes a few thoughtful pieces, a bit of layering, and a dash of creativity (plus maybe a snack break or two if your shopping buddies are under 10).

Before: Real Life, Real Stuff

Our foyer console was functioning—but barely. It had become a landing zone for hats, water bottles, school photos, and basically anything else that came through the front door. While it wasn’t a bad setup, it just didn’t feel pulled together. It lacked warmth, purpose, and that inviting energy that makes a house feel like a home.

After: Collected, Cozy, and Curated

With a few swaps and some styling, the space now feels cohesive and intentional. I brought in texture through woven baskets and a striped throw, added soft lighting with a neutral lamp, and incorporated simple artwork to give the vignette more personality. The biggest difference? It’s now styled to work with our everyday life, not against it.

4 Simple Takeaways for a Stylish Refresh

Corral the clutter with baskets

Open storage doesn’t have to mean messy. Woven baskets hide everything from shoes to sports gear and instantly make a space feel tidier and more polished.

Layer textures to bring warmth

The combination of seagrass baskets, a ceramic lamp, a woven throw, and a wood console adds depth and coziness without being busy.

Use art and accessories to tell a story

Framed artwork, a vintage-inspired dog figurine, and stacked boxes turn the console into more than just storage—it becomes a styled moment that feels personal and welcoming.

Keep it functional for your family

Yes, it's pretty, but it still works for us. The kids know where things go, the baskets are easy to access, and we didn’t sacrifice function for the sake of design.
