6 hot trends for 2023!

What’s in, what’s out, what’s timeless? Check out six of Shamrock Hill Design’s most important design trends that you should keep your eye out for.

What’s the difference between a trend and a fad? Trends stick around longer—usually about ten years. Fads come and go quickly with a lifespan of only about a year. Try not to spend too much money on fad designs. They come and go quickly. For lasting value, invest in trends that you love and they’ll last a long time.

Here are six of the biggest trends of 2023.

1. Sustainable Design

Sustainable design is growing in popularity among mainstream designers and wholesalers which then makes its way to us as consumers. Sustainable design has a mission to reduce the negative impact that the product has on the environment. Designed in LA, Rove Concepts, has incredible eco-friendly furniture offerings. They are also on top of the next trend on the list – curved profiles.

2. Curved Profiles

Curved profiles are seen everywhere right now – couches, chairs, lampshades, even walls! On Designing Miami, Sire Design created a curved wall feature that was absolutely spectacular. Curved furniture and interiors goes back to the 1920’s. We look back on it and are fascinated by the dimension and playfulness it adds to a space. It’s cool, it’s new and everyone I talk to wants a curved boucle chair!

3. Color and Vintage

Color is everywhere right now. Designers are not scared of using funky wallpaper and mixing and matching patterns in a space. It’s a nod to the retro style from the 70’s. Don’t worry, we’re not talking safety cone orange and plastic furniture. The way designers are implementing the 70’s vibe is polished and cool. They’re curating their collections with tasteful neutrals including browns, natural materials like rattan and geometric shapes and patterns.

4. Wellness Design

The last big design trend that you can look forward to seeing in 2023 is wellness design. Wellness design brings a focus on health and wellness for those who are living or working in a space. It’s so much more than what’s trending, but it’s gained so much popularity that without meaning to, it’s become a trend! Think furniture approved by the American Chiropractic Association. Think standing desks. We learned a lot over the last two years and health is a number one focus and priority for many.

5. Micro Luxury

Sometimes, it’s not in the budget to renovate an entire room, but you want a more updated room. Micro luxury is now trending. It’s a focus on a small detail that fits with a room, yet is a little more upscale. For instance, if you can’t afford to update everything in your living room, perhaps spectacular new lighting will breathe new breath into the atmosphere. One new item can help you obtain an entirely new look.

6. Paint Colors

Color can make the difference between an energized room and a relaxing one. There are so many new colors available, and these are our favorites:

·         Warm whites: Sherwin Williams Greek Villa or Alabaster. Creamy and luxurious.

·         Blues: Benjamin Moore Palladian Blue (great for bathrooms), Sherwin Williams Naval and Sea Salt.

·         Greens: Benjamin Moore Kennebunkport Green (great for mudroom), Sherwin Williams Sea Sage and Tidewater.

·         Grays: Benjamin Moore Balboa Mist and Gray Owl

One tip for incorporating these new trends in your home design is to take it slow. Don’t be tempted to follow the trends “just because”. Do it because it interests you. Be sure it brings you joy! Another tip for implementing some of these trendy designs into your own space is to work with an interior designer. We live and breathe this stuff every day. We love it and enjoy using our talents to help our clients make the best design decisions. We study and learn so that you don’t have to! The trend we’re most excited about is wellness design. It’s fascinating. And I love that it’s practical and beneficial. We’re seeing more color and pattern make its way onto the scene. It doesn’t have to be garish. There’s a way to make color and patterns polished and sophisticated. Think Caitlin Wilson.
