front door colors that show off your house!

What’s the first thing you see when you look at a house? The front door! Let’s welcome spring by updating your front door color with something that welcomes you home and makes you smile. Earth tones are still very popular in 2023. If you’re selling, classic white, black or gray are sophisticated colors that look great with most house colors. Black is trending again in 2023, and a popular choice because it’s dramatic and goes with most house colors. If black isn’t for you, earthy tones like sage greens, soft blues, and charcoal brown are welcoming and subtle.

Zillow

Zillow conducted a poll in 2022 and determined that “slate blue, or black front doors can sell homes for as much as $6,449 more.”

SHERWIN WILLIAMS

Similar to last year, natural hues are trending. Sherwin Williams has announced their top five exterior door colors. Peppercorn, a charcoal color; Sprout, a pale shade of green; and Quite Coral are currently three of the best-selling front door colors.

BENJAMIN MOORE

Benjamin Moore offers a list of contrasting colors for front doors as well as colors of green, gray and blue that they call “gracious.”  Find out more here: Front Door Color Ideas and Inspiration | Benjamin Moore . If you are selling your house, it’s best to stick with standard colors like black, white, or blue in most situations. And if you live in an HOA, be sure to check with them if you want to change your current color.

COLOR THEORY

How do you find what suits your house the best? Color theory is the science behind colors. How we perceive them, how they work together, and  how we react to seeing color. Theory is also hue, value, and chroma of colors. Hue is the general color of a paint or object. For instance, green hue can refer to broccoli, leaves on a tree, and grass. The shades are different, but the color is the same. Value is about how light or dark the color is on a grayscale. For instance, broccoli might fall on a darker green value and a Granny Smith apple’s green value would be lower (lighter). Lastly, chroma is the strength or dominance of a color. Pastels tend to have a low chroma, but colors that feel stronger and more intense are high chroma.

The color wheel is another great tool that we use to find colors that you like and that work well together.
