selling this spring? here’s 5 things to do now to get your home ready!
The sun is setting later. The long-range temperature forecast in Maryland offers hope that cold days will turn warmer soon. And it’s a great time to get a head start preparing your home for the spring market. Begin now, and you’ll be ready to showcase your house when potential buyers pack away their winter boots and trudge outside to look at houses.
get ready for buyers to fall in love with your house with these tips:
1. Repair and clean:
Check outside first because this is the first thing buyers will see. Are there dead vines climbing up your brick? Is the sidewalk or steps a tripping hazard? These are items buyers will notice. Schedule your contractor now to get on the schedule. Inside, shine windows and mirrors. Brighter sunshine shows off your floors and furniture and clean windows make rooms look brighter.
2. Paint your walls.
Some of our favorite colors for 2023 are: Sherwin Williams Greek Villa or Alabaster are warm whites we love. Benjamin Moore’s Palladian Blue works well for bathrooms. Sherwin Williams Naval is great for an accent wall or home offices. Green is growing in popularity, too, and Sherwin Williams Tidewater and Sea Salt (green-blue) excel in those rooms.
3. Exterior:
Cut grass, order mulch, rake debris. Remove items that haven’t fared well through winter. Display some much-needed color. As the weather starts to get warmer, set out some cold-hardy plants like pansies and mums. Or plant some small evergreens in pots. Pick the brightest colors possible because people in Maryland love the first hint of color when the browns and grays of winter begin to disappear.
4. Inside:
Clean top to bottom. Check for dust webs on the ceiling and on overhead lights. Dust the woodwork and floors. Vacuum under sofas and tables. Wash or replace any curtains or shower curtains that show dirt or wear. Highlight the comfort of your spaces with bright pillows and blankets, and bedding. Remember the back porch and add lots of greenery inside, too.
5. Declutter as much as possible.
You’ll be packing eventually, so now is the time to start packing things you won’t need between now and moving day. It’s also the time to make decisions about what to donate and give away. The less you have, the less time and money you’ll spend on moving. This is really important, too because buyers like to see rooms with cleared floors and surfaces and only decorative items displayed.
Selling a house is a lot of work. When you start early, you’ll be ahead of the game and ready when spring buyers flood the market. Did we forget to mention anything you think needs to be done to get your house ready when selling in spring? Leave us a comment and let us know!
